A Piece of Toast

Yum...a piece of toast...but it's actually a wonderful lifestyle/fashion blog by sister duo Sally and Molly. Their genuine personalities as well as inspirations really shine through in their blog.  I'm so grateful for their lovely feature today about our little shop. Check it out...and love their analysis of a piece of  toast: simple, beautiful and versatile. Great design elements that can be present even in a simple piece of toast. It's making me crave some of my fave toasts: 1) Italian style: drizzled with olive oil and a clove of garlic rubbed on top 2)Sweet cravings: Nutella on top or the classic "PB and J" (honey will work too). How do you like your toast?

And as part of our promo: Follow us on Facebook or Pinterest receive 10% off with code: SOCIAL.
We will also be having a Labor Day weekend sale/promotion. Come visit our shop soon!

Yes, fall season is almost upon us. But I just can't help being drawn to all the colors and prints by the masters at incorporating lovely textiles into their designs. I always look forward to seeing the vintage-inspired cuts and beautiful textile prints by New Zealand designer Karen Walker and New York designer Lauren Moffatt for their new collections. Whether the pieces are from Fall or Spring/Summer collection and whatever hemisphere you're from, they seem appropriate for all seasons. Always classic and oh so pretty!

These colorful outfits also serve as the perfect canvas for some of our everyday bags with their classic shapes, neutral color palette and timeworn look that just get better with age. 1) Ellen Truijen's Small Matroesjka Bag 2) Erin Templeton Small Tote Bag.

New York: Finger Lakes Region

8.15.2012

Before I share my adventures in our road trip to  the Pacific Northwest, just wanted to share some images from my trip to New York this summer.  When New York comes to mind, it may typically be associated with the hustle and bustle of Manhattan. It was refreshing to spend some time in western New York this summer surrounded by greenery (from willow trees to pine trees) and the iconic Niagara falls, just don't mind the humidity.

But who knew there was wine tasting in New York? This under the radar gem that has been around for a while, known as the Finger Lakes region, offers nature buffs options while taking sips of their favorite wine. The wine trails offer some wonderful whites and reds, but well known for their signature wine, Riesling. The casual atmosphere along with more affordable $3 tastings were definitely a plus compared to some of the California wineries where prices could go up to 6 bucks.

Admiring the magnificent views, we completed the Cayuga Wine trail and went around Cayuga lake in one day with a stop at Ithaca, with its beautiful location overlooking the lake.  The lake is also dotted with small towns with a Norman Rockwell feel. The little town of Aurora is worth a visit for dinner and just to sit by the lake at Aurora Inn. I'll have to check out the Seneca Wine Trail next time.

Wedding Essentials: An Attendee's Perspective

8.06.2012

Although I can write about essentials as a bridesmaid, having worn...no not 27 dresses like the movie....but 7 dresses, including a funny "movie-like" moment when one dress got ripped in half while I was seated at the backseat of a car when my dress train got caught on the back wheel. Yikes!

After being invited to back to back weddings this summer, there were definitely "must-have" essentials I needed from an attendee's perspective. Okay besides having a date of course, standout jewelry pieces, a nice dress, comfy shoes (I admit I've compromised on this for the cute factor), these are essential accessories that complete the look while serving a function.

A neutral or bold colored clutch is an essential piece for the things we need- a stash of cash for tipping the bartender, our favorite lipstick and powder or  a camera for those not be missed moments. While it may be blazing hot during the ceremony whether outdoors or in the church, I'm always freezing at the reception at times, so I always like to carry a shawl/scarf that I can just throw on.

Wanderlust: Portugal

8.03.2012

While I've always wanted to visit Portugal, these images of this summer cottage or cabana from Elle Decor Espania found via Lisbeth, are just calling my name and make me wish I really had "wings" to fly. Hmmm, if only I can simply "vuela" or fly to this beautiful Alentejo region of Portugal.  Here's a nice article and more images of this region via NY Times.  Happy Friday!

Toronto Shop Visit: Bookhou

8.01.2012

While I dream of having a brick and mortar store someday, I just love checking out local boutiques whenever I travel to a new city. During my first trip to Toronto this summer, a "must visit" was a local shop, Bookhou, which carries  home and fashion accessories from bags to ceramics. The space is light and airy and with a simple yet warm aesthetic, just like Arounna's work. Her designs are the perfect mix of form and function. I've been a fan of Arounna's well-crafted handmade pieces for a long time. I love her beautiful textile prints whether they are used in her totes, tea towels and cases(I use her adorable large pouch as my camera case).

It was wonderful to meet Arounna and her family. She is just warm and friendly in person, like someone you've known for a along time. I admire her dedication to her craft while balancing family life. This local business is truly a family affair with the love and support of her family.

On a side note, the shop is close to the bustling Queen Street with great restaurants and boutiques. Thanks Arounna for the local tips!  While Toronto is known for its China Town, we couldn't resist the Italian food at Terroni.
